Rather than printing or painting the landscape onto the leather, Hermès artisans construct the entire scene using leather marquetry—an extremely intricate form of leather mosaic:

• Hand-Cut Precision: Dozens of individual, precision-cut pieces of colored leather (typically a combination of smooth Swift, Togo, and Clémence) are hand-fitted together like a jigsaw puzzle.

• Seamless Stitching: The leather pieces are micro-stitched side-by-side into the base panel so smoothly that the surface remains flush to the touch.

• Embroidery Accents: Subtle embroidered stitches are added to outline details like streetlights and road markings.

• Original Birkin Lineage: The Haut à Courroies ("High Straps") is Hermès' original bag design from 1892. Its taller proportions served as the direct structural foundation for the modern Birkin.
